The City of Tipp City is accepting applications for the position of Fire & Emergency Services Chief.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services Department provides emergency medical services, fire suppression, and all-hazards response to the City of Tipp City and Monroe Township in Miami County, Ohio. The Department serves an area of approximately 30.8 square miles with a population of roughly 18,000 residents. The Department’s organizational structure includes a full-time staff consisting of a Fire & Emergency Services Chief, Assistant Chief, four Captains, and twelve Firefighter/EMTs, supported by approximately 42 part-time personnel.
The Fire & Emergency Services Chief serves as the senior administrative and operational leader of the department and is responsible for its overall direction, performance, and effectiveness. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Chief provides strategic leadership while ensuring the department’s operations, staffing, and resource needs are aligned with the City’s goals, policies, and financial priorities.
The successful candidate will be an experienced, collaborative leader who can effectively manage day-to-day operations while also considering the broader interests of the City as a whole. This includes exercising sound judgment and reasonability in matters related to staffing, budgeting, capital planning, and service delivery, and working constructively with City leadership and other departments to support long-term organizational sustainability.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree preferred; bachelor’s degree, minimal, in an Emergency Services related field with experience in Fire & Emergency Services administration and management; or equivalent education and experience. Professional certifications are preferred with credentialing. 15 years of experience and a minimum of 5 years of progressive administrative and management experience in Fire & Emergency Services.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a State of Ohio certification or certificate; Firefighter II; EMT-P; Fire Safety Inspector; Fire Officer I and II, *III, and *IV; Ohio Fire Executive or NFA Executive Fire Officer, *Plans Reviewer; Fire Investigator experience and training; EMS and/or Fire Instructor; and NIMS/ICS 300 and 400. Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license and must remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance plan.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The pay range for this position is $92,797.12 to $142,526.02 per year based on experience and qualifications. The City of Tipp City provides all full-time employees with a robust benefits package, which includes health and dental insurance, life/accidental death and dismemberment; paid vacation (prorated rollover available), sick leave (rollover available), personal days, holidays, and floating holidays; contributions to the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund; and other funding for health club passes.
