Part-Time Fire Chief
Perry Township Fire Department (Logan County, OH)
The Perry Township Board of Trustees (Logan County, Ohio) is seeking qualified applicants for Part Time Fire Chief. The Township operates one fire station in East Liberty, serving approximately one thousand township residents over 26.8 square miles of the unincorporated area, and provides mutual aid to Logan and Union counties.
The Fire Chief leads the Perry Township Fire Department, responsible for all aspects of management. The Chief is considered an employee of Perry Township pursuant to R.C. 505.38 and supervises a combination of paid part-time and volunteer first responders.
The Chief is expected to work in collaboration with local elected officials, residents, and community partners while maintaining efficient and effective operations. The Chief is responsible for the health, welfare, and safety of the community which includes the overall operation of fire suppression services, fire prevention, and EMS services provided by the department.
Expected Monthly Hours For Chief Duties-24 Monthly Salary For Completing Chief Duties-$1200.00
Expected Minimum Hours Per Month For Shift Coverage-24 Hourly Wage For Shift Coverage-$23.00 Total Monthly Wages $1,752.00
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Accept full responsibility for all Fire Department activities and services including activities associated with training/hazmat, disaster preparation, EMS communications, records, support services, and fire safety technical services functions.
- Report to the Township Trustees regularly, including statistics and plans outlining important information for the ongoing evaluation of the Department operations.
- Ensure that all Federal, State, County, and other governmental or administrative requirements are met by preparing and filing any necessary reports required in a timely manner.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Fire Department’s goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the Fire Department’s staffing; assign work activities and responsibilities to appropriate department personnel; review and evaluate work methods and procedures; identify and resolve problems and/or issues in a timely manner.
- Review and evaluate service delivery methods and systems including administrative and support systems and internal relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to standard operating procedures to enhance services and improve efficiency.
- Oversee and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees on hiring, firing, discipline, and professional development.
- Oversee and direct training and direct hazardous and toxic materials control activities whenever needed.
- Recommend, specify, and purchase new apparatus and equipment upon Trustees’ approval.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Perry Township Board of Trustees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
In addition to working conditions requiring basic physical fitness, candidates must acknowledge the unique risks of first responders as they may be required to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, around excessive noise, moving vehicles, around chemicals, blood, and other potential hazardous exposures. First responders may be subjected to physical threats, verbal abuse, and other stressful situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination of education and experience essential to the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical illustration of this criteria is the specification of the number of years in a progressively responsible leadership position in a military, municipal, or township fire or emergency medical service department.
- EMT Certification; ODPS Firefighter Level I/II.
- Strong communication & leadership skills.
- Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
