The City of Riverside, Ohio, is accepting applications for the position of Fire Department Battalion Chief. The Battalion Chief, under the direction of the Fire Chief, serves as a first-line supervisor for Fire Department staff members; directly responsible to the Chief of the Department for training, fire suppression, emergency care, and the transport of sick and/or injured patients, fire prevention, and fire investigations. The fire department battalion chief works a 24/48-hour rotation @ 2912 hours per year. MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE: • High School Diploma or equivalent • Associate degree in a related field (bachelor’s degree preferred) • Seven years or more experience as a Firefighter and Paramedic • Five years of supervisory experience in an Officer level position and at least two of those years • supervisory experience at a Captain level or above • Current State of Ohio EMT-Paramedic certification; State of Ohio Level II Firefighter Certification or equivalent; valid Ohio Driver's License; State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector; Fire or EMS Instructor Certification; Hazardous Material operation certificate • State of Ohio Fire Officer I and II (III and IV preferred) • National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer (EFO) or the State of Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) (preferred) • BERT – Basic Emergency Rescue Technician (preferred) • National Incident Management System Certification IC-100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800 • Knowledge of local and state laws relating to Fire and EMS and the national fire code; thorough knowledge of inspection and investigative procedures; knowledge of fire suppression, prevention, and incident command procedures • Knowledge and familiarity with departmental, city, and state rules, regulations, ordinances, and policies • Must maintain required continuing education as required to maintain certification • Solid negotiation and persuasion skills • General knowledge of computers and various software packages

BENEFITS: • Current wage: $103,055.68 Annually • 12 EDOs, • Vacation – Ranges 96 hours for entry-level to 336 hours/year after 25 years (Vacation accrual credit will be awarded with prior full-time government service). • Sick Leave 6.46 hours per pay.
