Fire Prevention Officer

Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District

The Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District, located in Plain City, Ohio is seeking an experienced fire service professional to fill a new full-time position with the Fire District (Fire Prevention Officer). Plain City is an agricultural and bedroom community of approximately 13,000 residents, known for its excellent school system, high quality of life and sense of community. It is located in a growing area northwest of Columbus within minutes of the conveniences of a major metropolitan area.  PVJFD is a single station, combination department of 13 full-time and 38 part-time members protecting 82 square miles.

The new Fire Prevention Officer will be tasked with developing the department’s Fire Prevention Bureau with the goal of increasing the District’s impact on fire safety, education, plan review, and code enforcement. The Fire Prevention Officer will be expected to become an active, visible member of the community and lead the District’s Fire Prevention Bureau through a period of community growth and change.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record with fire inspections, fire investigations, and building plans review, as well as supervisory experience in the fire service. These attributes will be validated through a combination of life & work experience coupled with formal training certifications.

Required certifications:
1. Ohio Firefighter 1 & 2
2. Ohio Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
3. Ohio Fire Safety Inspector
4. Meets the criteria for a Fire Investigator as outlined in NFPA 1033

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ohio Fire Safety Inspector Instructor certification
2. State of Ohio Underground Tank Inspector certification
3. Associate Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Science or other related field by an accredited college or university

Highly valued qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Science or other related field by an accredited college or university
2. Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification through the National Association of Fire Investigators
3. Ohio Board of Standards Fire Protection Inspector

The candidate must also possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License & be insurable by the Fire District’s carrier. Final determination as to the eligibility of the candidate for the position will be determined by the Fire Board with direct input from the Fire Chief. The hiring process may consist of any or all of the following: formal review of qualifications; background check(s); medical and drug screening; interview(s); assessment center

Salary Range is $58,848.41 to $68,640.78 with the potential to earn overtime. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate’s experience, qualifications and related skills, knowledge and ability.
