Chief Wetherbee will present on Ohio's Flooded Roadway Law. Ohio’s Flooded Roadway Law, named in honor of Fallen Wellington Fire District Diver Allan Anderson Jr., was signed into law in December of 2014. To date, very little seems to be known about the law, which poses stiffer penalties for drivers who ignore Road Closed signs and travel into high water. This informational class will cover the events leading to a LODD prompting the introduction of Senate Bill 106, an explanation of ORC 4511.714, the required signage, as well as the actions taken to make an entire County aware of the law and how to enforce it.

About the Presenter: Mike Wetherbee serves as chief of the Wellington Fire District in Lorain County, Ohio. The District protects 13,000 citizens in 125 square miles, and consists of one village and five townships. Chief Wetherbee has 31 years in the fire service and has promoted through the ranks before being appointed Chief of Department in December of 2011. Chief Wetherbee oversees all operational and administrative activities of the 32 member combination department. Chief Wetherbee’s certifications include Firefighter 2, Fire Officer 4, Certified Fire Safety Inspector, Fire Instructor, and EMT-B. Chief Wetherbee is a member of the Ohio Fire Chief’s Association, the Northeast Ohio Fire Chief’s Association, the Tri-County CISD Team, and also serves as Vice President of the Lorain County Fire Chiefs Association. Prior to accepting the position of full-time chief, Mike worked 25 years in materials management and steel procurement in the automotive industry.
